Amsonia tabernaemontana var. salicifolia

Eastern Blue Star

Amsonia tabernaemontana var. salicifolia, commonly known as Eastern blue star, is a long lived warm-season flowering perennial with smooth, green lanceolate foliage and light blue star-shaped flowers in mid spring. Amsonia tabernaemontana var. salicifolia grows into a round, shrub-like perennial, 3-4' tall. During the fall, the eastern blue star has a vibrant yellow fall color. Amsonia is easy to grow, preferring full sun to dappled shade. Amsonia tabernaemontana var. salicifolia is an excellent choice for pollinator gardens, attracting many bees, butterflies, hummingbird moths, and even the occasional hummingbird.
