Monarda didyma

Bee Balm

Monarda didyma, known commonly as Scarlet bee balm, occurs throughout eastern North America as a native and introduced species. Scarlet Bee Balm prefers full to partial sunny environments, with medium to wet soil. A quickly spreading rhizomatous perennial, Monarda didyma should be planted in an area where it will be able to spread out. Monarda didyma grows anywhere from 2-4' in height, with dark green, aromatic foliage. Additionally, Monarda didyma is a well-loved plant species by many pollinators, the bright red crowns of tubular flowers are notorious for attracting hummingbirds.
