Symphyotrichum oblongifolium

Aromatic Aster

Symphyotrichum oblongifolium, also known as Aromatic Aster, is a dazzling late-season flowering perennial. With numerous blue-purple ray flowers in late fall, Symphyotrichum oblongifolium keeps a lower spralling form, typically only growing 1-2' but covering twice the area with arching stems branching out from the base of the plant. They can be found growing in full sun to partially shady environments, with moist to dry soil. Symphyotrichum oblongifolium flowery, sprawling form is perfect along a garden edge or in combination with taller warm-season grasses. Aromatic Aster is rhizomatous and will spread slowly over time. Symphyotrichum is a keystone flowering perennial, supporting over 100 different invertebrate species, and it's very important to late-season pollinators.
