Anemone virginiana

Tall Anemone (Thimbleweed)

Anemone virginiana, commonly called Thimbleweed, is a slow rhizomatous perennial found in moist meadows and woodlands edges. Anemone virginiana is able to grow in full sun to partial shade, and tolerates a large range of soil moisture. Thimbleweed blooms profusely in the early summer, producing sweet white flowers which rise above their leaves, 2-3' tall. Their green leaves are deeply lobed, unpalatable to herbivores and insects. Many spring pollinators are attracted to Anemone virginiana, and, in the fall, their fluffy seedheads add an ornamental texture to any garden.
